Privacy Policy

Our commitment

MGE Lawyers is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information we hold. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and consistently with our professional obligations of confidentiality and legal professional privilege.

Information we collect

The information we collect depends on the matter. It commonly includes your name, contact details, identification documents, information about your matter and the parties involved, financial information where relevant to the matter, and records of our communications with you.

How we collect it

We generally collect information directly from you — through enquiry forms on this website, by phone, by email or in a meeting. Sometimes we collect information from third parties, such as courts, government agencies, other law firms, or with your consent from other professionals involved in your matter.

How we use it

We use personal information to provide legal services, to communicate with you about your matter, to comply with our professional, identity verification and record-keeping obligations, and to administer our practice including billing.

Disclosure

We may disclose information where it is necessary for your matter — for example to courts and tribunals, barristers, experts, the other side or their representatives, or government agencies — and where we are required or authorised by law to do so. We do not sell personal information.

Website enquiries and analytics

Information you submit through an enquiry form on this site is used to respond to your enquiry. This site may use cookies or analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site; where used, this information is generally aggregated and does not identify you.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including secure file storage and access controls. Records are retained for the period required by our professional obligations and then destroyed or de-identified.

Access, correction and complaints

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. Some information may be subject to legal privilege or other exceptions. To make a request, or to raise a privacy concern, contact our office at info@mgelawyers.com.au or on 1800 643 529. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
